How Do I Fix a Leaking Air Conditioner?

• A dirty air filter – Clogged or partially blocked air conditioner filters can cause the unit's evaporator coils to freeze, causing the drainage pan to overflow with water.
• Faulty condensate pan – When the condensate pan that holds water breaks down due to corrosion or age, your air conditioner will leak.
• Blocked drain pipe – In order for an air conditioner to function properly, water must flow through a series of drain pipes before disappearing down the drain. If one of these drainpipes is blocked, water could leak from the unit.
• Faulty installation – There is a good chance that your brand new air conditioner is either not sized properly or was installed incorrectly if it leaks.
• Cool outdoor temperatures – It is possible for the coils to freeze up and leak water if you try to cool your home below 60 degrees.
• Low refrigerant level –In low refrigerant levels, your AC loses pressure, causing the coils to freeze. When the coils melt, the drain pan may overflow.
